Job Description Summary

Offshore Yaw Electrical Drives Intern is expected to closely collaborate with Pitch and Yaw Controls team to integrate/qualify the new drive suppliers to the pitch & yaw system and develop features according to Specifications by following development workflows and Agile principles. This role is specifically to integrate the new drive in the Yaw system including the configuration of the parameters in the drive, the firmware integration, and the interface communication in order to communicate with the Yaw PLC Beckhoff.
The validation is expected to be performed by the candidate along with team at GE extended test facilities. A motor will be tested against the yaw system and the performance will be compared against the other supplier drives.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Understand, configure, and validate the new yaw drive to support the integration of the new supplier to the Yaw system.
  • Learn the complete Controls development workflow and understand the roadmap of the validation.
  • Able to interpret the Specifications from the supplier and demonstrate clear analytical skills to translate them to documentation.
  • Ability to communicate and discuss with specification owners and develop test plans according to Specifications.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical, Industrial or Controls Engineering from an accredited College or University, or last year of university. (or equivalent knowledge or experience)
  • Knowledge in Electrical drives and minimum experience in software development.
  • Familiarity and practical experience with agile methodologies.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written). Spanish is welcome.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, leadership skills and a positive energy.
  • A strong commitment to a career in technology and passion/aptitude for engineering.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills with experience in software industry standards and development tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to articulate clearly.
  • Demonstrated creative problem-solving and proactive learning.
  • Technology enthusiast. Passion/aptitude for both modelling and analysis.
  • Full time in presence work at the Barcelona office and labs.
  • Working hours required: 40 hours/weekly.
  • Duration of internship: min. 6 months.
  • Start date: as the latest end of September.
  • If contracted in Spain:
    Non-national candidates are responsible to know the minimum documentation requirements to be able to be contracted in country: NIE- Social Security Affiliation Number in Spain (NAF) and Bank Account in Spain. They must be in possession of them at the time of start hiring. GE will not sponsor this requirement

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience in electrical motors and drive configurations
  • Experience with real time controls design or modeling
  • Strong academic exposure in Controls design and projects are preferred.
  • Proficient in Beckhoff PLCs and TwinCat programming for the design and validation of controls systems.
  • Demonstrated the ability to analyze and resolve problems.
  • PLC/HMI programming and control system design.
